Roll Call) of those of our public servant senators (small case intended), to whom

Roll call of
yays on the
Coburn Amendment: Allard (CO-R), Allen (VA-R), Bayh (IN-D), Burr (NC-R), Coburn (OK-R), Conrad (ND-D), DeMint (SC-R), DeWine (OH-R), Feingold (WI-D), Graham (SC-R), Kyl (AZ-R), Landrieu (LA-D), Sessions (AL-R), Sununu (NH-R), Vitter (LA-R). Let's give the above a hand for their vote (but for Christ's sake, (many of these are in hurricane/tornado territory, some live in Gulf Hurricane Katrina contract territory) don't make them out to be saints) and remember this travesty forever. kos' story was very appropriately followed by LITBMueller's, "Rant: Pork Addiction," then there's hsawaknow's "Chertoff Blames FEMA," Lot's of links today, FEMA is not bereft of truly good people and today one of those in the person of Marty Bohamonde has been the buzz, starkravinglunaticradical has provided this excellent link regarding Brown/FEMA, "CONGRESS QUESTIONS BROWN [Transcript]," 09/27/05, and kishik has provided this great link "Excerpts from e-mails among Federal Emergency Management officials during Hurricane Katrina," 10/20/05, they say three's a charm, so I've added this "FEMA's Man on the Ground Criticizes Agency's Katrina Response," 10/21/05, surprise, Haliburton makes use of illegal immigrants in the Gulf, "Immigration detains Katrina workers [Working for a Haliburton Subconractor]," 10/20/05, the continuing saga of the deadly bus explosion (see my scribblings for the 19th, below): "Bus driver's testimony to grand jury delayed - Illegal immigrant is a central witness in a federal probe into 23 fire deaths," 10/20/05, some needed links on young displaced and traumatized kids and the school system: "KATRINA'S AFTERMATH...As the reality of their situation sinks in, displaced students - and their teachers - struggle with the trauma's effects," 10/18/05, "Writing helping young Katrina survivors," 10/20/05, "New Orleans: school staff face massive cuts in jobs, benefits," 10/20/05, "Gulf Coast businesses left out of Katrina-relief spending," 10/19/05;

Hurricane Song is also linked under "Other Links" below. I found my way to it via Latino in LAw's, diary today, where he provided an excellent link: "blackprof.com," which lead me to "Admin's," 10/12/05 diary, also titled, "Hurricane Song," which, of course, lead me to that haunting song. Ferreting further into the blackprof.com archives, I found the following 'diary' gems (all, as usual, linked below): Spencer Overton's, "Politics & Rebuilding New Orleans," 09/15/05, Sherrilyn Ifill's, "Louisiana's political balance post-Katrina," 09/19/05, Spencer Overton's, "David Duke Voters in Louisiana," 09/22/05, Darren Hutchinson's, "Racism Phobia," 09/23/05, Tracey Meares', "Parish Divided," 09/28/05, returning to dailykos diaries for 10/19/05 there are: mitch2k2's "Hey Accountant/Lawyer/Fundraiser Kossacks: I Need Your Help," Swopa's, "Workers ripped off by FEMA roofing scams," (that diary led me back to Swopa's 09/29/05 needlenose.com diary, "Operation Gold Roof," PaulLoeb's, "HARD CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE BIG EASY," Patriot for Al Gore's, "Recipe For Poison Stew," and skippy's elated because, "cafe du monde open again in n'awlins! beignets for everybody!" I've added the NewStandard links provided by melancon yesterday: "The NewStandard" and "The NewStandard Katrina coverage," "Safety Places a Distant Second in Race to Repopulate New Orleans," 10/14/05, "Some Neighborhoods Rebuild, But Part of Lower 9th Remains Off-limits," 10/17/05, and Halycon has provided another NewStandard link, "Bayou Towns Still Fending for Selves After Rita's Floods,*" 10/18/05, AngelNC highlighted highacidity's 09/02/05 poster today, so I added this link for it, "Poster of Grover Norquist's quest come true (Lower resolution PDF), Higher resolution PDF," along with a link to highacidity's 09/14/05 diary "(updated) Norquist poster to become a billboard in DC;" lastly, I discovered an interesting factoid regarding former NFL player, James H. Maples, the owner of Global Limo, Inc., the bus company whose bus which exploded into flames killing 23 of 38 elderly patients fleeing Hurricane Rita, and whose driver, once held as a hero (whom Maples reportedly owes $14K in back pay to), is now being held (scapegoated?) as an illegal immigrant. Despite, a February 2005 bankruptcy filing and IRS back taxes owed of $225k for tax years 1992-2000, the son of a bastard contributed over $11,000 to the Republican Party, (reportedly to Texas Governer, Perry), between April 2002 and June 2004. All I can say is, gee, and please feel free to diarize this, the links are:  "Driver hailed as hero is being held near border," 09/29/05, "Legal, Financial Woes Dogged McAllen Owner of Burned Bus," 09/23/05,  "Bus operator had financial, driver safety problems - Tour company is in bankruptcy, has numerous violations," 09/24/05 "James H Maples, Global Bus owner, donates over $11k to Republican Party," joined with  "Bus owner contributed to [TX Gov.] Perry, Democrat says," 10/06/05; 10/18/05: As I write this, I learn "Hurricane Wilma" has turned to a Category 5 with 175 mph winds, still expected to hit Florida by the weekend. The Missing and the Dead Part II:
On September 10th. I posted a diary originally titled, "Pols Try To Bury Funeral Probe." That diary was an expose on SCI/Kenyon (the private contractor hired first by FEMA then subsequently by the state of Louisiana) which was intiated by reading Bob Johnson's September 8th Diary, UPDATED: FEMA hires private contractor to collect bodies.
I thought to myself what a horrid thing, to not be able to search for your missing loved one(s) and then, because it's all one can do to desperatley seek shelter and food, to be forced to trust that a company with such a despicable reputation, is going to honor your loved one(s) in their death, because you have no means to see that it's done. At some point in time, when some stability is found for those people, they may tear at themselves as to whether their dead were honored, despite the fact that there was nothing they could possibly do.
With those thoughts in mind, I started an archive of diary and other links pertaining primarily to the Missing and Dead and other matters affecting those caught in Hurricanes Katrina (and to a lesser degree, Rita). Consequently, I changed the diary's title to, "The Missing and the Dead?..." (which see), and began archiving diary and other links related to those primarily affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Now, I'm unable to edit and add links to that dairy anymore, so I'm posting this Part II diary and continuing with the archive.
Sweet dreams, to fortify you for tommorrow.
